Coming off a thrilling series win that saw them go six games with the upstart Minnesota Timberwolves, the Memphis Grizzlies have officially established themselves as a Western Conference powerhouse. Their second round match-up with the Golden State Warriors will prove to be the ultimate test for them as they aim to capture their first title in NBA history.

Memphis' lethal combination of size, length, and athleticism is what's made them such a force of nature all season. As they look to pull out another big series win, the Grizzlies will certainly have their work cut out for them. Let's now discuss who the Grizzlies' x-factor will be during the 2022 West Semifinals, cause it definitely won't be Ja Morant.

Grizzlies' X-Factor vs. Warriors: Steven Adams

During their first round series against the Timberwolves, Steven Adams was a complete non-factor for the Grizzlies. Against Golden State, he could have a major impact and make his presence well-known. His dominant low-post presence is exactly what the Grizzlies will need when they go up against the Warriors' relatively thin frontline.

Adams' rebounding, rim protection, and powerful finishes at the cup will give the Grizz a mismatch that they can exploit all series long. Adams will also be able to create more scoring opportunities for his teammates with his innate ability to nab offensive rebounds. With his big frame and massive stature, Adams will be vital for Memphis when they need to make defensive stops late in the game.

He may not have been relevant against Minnesota, but if they're hoping to make their first conference finals appearance since 2013, then inserting Adams back into the rotation seems like a no-brainer. The Warriors will present a stronger challenge with their playoff experience and championship pedigree, but the Grizzlies have youth, athleticism, and size on their side which will help them out a bunch.

Adams' presence would add to this and give Memphis the natural center that Golden State is sorely lacking. Adams is also no stranger to the postseason as he was apart of several deep runs during his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Adams' veteran leadership is another key attribute that can help this young Grizzlies squad out a ton during the second round.

As a battle-tested big with a unique skillset, Adams could be a real difference maker for the Grizzlies during the West semis. Not to mention an overlooked aspect of his game is his stellar outlet passing that's been put on full display several times throughout his career. It's quite clear that Memphis horribly underutilized Adams last round and his deep arm threat could take their transition play up a few notches.

They're going to need him now more than ever as they'll be going to-toe-to with a Warriors team that's back in the postseason and looking to settle some unfinished business. Adams definitely could have his way with Kevon Looney and Draymond Green down low if the Grizzlies can properly work him into their game plan. He may not be their go-to guy, but Adams value in Memphis is not to be overlooked by any measure.
