Grand Theft Auto Online (GTA Online), the online game companion to Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), will be leaving the PS3 and Xbox 360 before the year ends. Rockstar Games announced that the servers will close down on December 16, 2021. That comes a month after GTA Online arrives on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. As the game moves on to next-gen consoles, Rockstar feels that the players should begin moving on, too.

Players on the PS3 and the Xbox 360 will still be able to purchase Shark Cash Cards until September 15, 2021GTA Online‘s website stat tracking feature and the Rockstar Games Social Club will shut down on September 16, 2021. Two other games will be affected by these changes: L.A. Noire and Max Payne 3.

Rockstar Games clarified as well that there will be no changes on GTA V on PS3 and Xbox 360. The changes will only affect GTA Online.

Fans have made GTA V and by extension, GTA Online, into a meme of sorts because of its longevity. The game has been around for almost a decade now since its original release in 2013. The game has been released in every console generation until then. Rockstar Games continuously update the game, making sure that the “continuously evolving” game environment remains vibrant and dynamic. The game remains to be a popular multiplayer game, with servers being created for roleplaying sessions.
