Many fans have counted Halo out, thinking that it's not going to be true to the source material – but these Halo Episode 1 Easter Eggs say otherwise.

Halo Episode 1 Easter Eggs

The gaming community love their easter eggs hidden in shows that adapt their favorite video games. Halo is no different, and fans were on the lookout for Halo Episode 1 Easter Eggs when the show premiered on Paramount+ earlier today. You might have missed these or some may have even gone over your head. So, we're here to help you spot these easter eggs so you can show it to your friends when you decide to give the episode a second viewing.

“This Cave Network does not appear to be a natural formation”

This line came straight out of the games! When fans heard that the producers haven't bothered playing the game at least once, many lost interest in this show, thinking that it will not be treated with the respect it deserves. However, some references to the game itself can be found in the series, and Episode 1 has exactly just that. At around 21 minutes into the show, you'll hear the infamous line “This Cave Network does not appear to be a natural formation.” This was originally uttered by Cortana in the original Halo: Combat Evolved. Talk about a nice throwback!

The Covenant's Deadly Weaponry

Players may have become desensitized by the enemy weapons at this point after years of getting hit by the same blasters without dying. But we get to see these heavy machineries in action in the TV show, and they prove deadly! The Covenant's onslaught at the introduction of the show demonstrated their deadly plasma weaponry, rendered in a way that makes them look even more utterly devastating than they ever were in the games.

Commander Shepherd (of Mass Effect fame) is canon in this universe

At around 34 minutes into the episode, Miranda Keyes and Kwan Ha are back at the UNSC flagship. During a scene where Miranda and Kwan have finished talking, you could make out some background chatter in the ship. Among the voices you'd hear says “Commander Shepherd, you are requested at the Skillian Response Center.” This was indeed a Mass Effect reference, as Commander Shepherd is the name of the hero or heroine of the Mass Effect franchise.

Avid gamers probably took their remotes and went for the rewind after hearing this. It may even have been shocking to some, and 343 Industries has come out to confirm that this easter egg was there deliberately. The showrunners knew what they were doing when they put this scene together. It's a nice little easter egg that will probably not have any follow-up, but it was fun to spot nonetheless.
