With the Atlanta Hawks now in rebuild mode, young players and future draft picks are at the top of their wishlist as they speed up the process. Still, they are also looking to add some veteran free agents this summer to keep their roster competitive, as they prepare for next season hoping for the best possible scenario.

After trading Dwight Howard and allowing Paul Millsap and Tim Hardaway Jr. to leave, the Hawks have reportedly turned their attention on free agent center Dewayne Dedmon, who they are hoping would agree on a potential deal with them, according to Michael Scotto of the Associated Press.

The 27-year-old USC product spent last season with the San Antonio Spurs and appeared in 76 regular season and 12 playoff matches for them. He had his best year as a pro with career-high averages of 5.1 points on 62.2 percent field goal shooting and 6.5 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game. Dedmon established himself as a serviceable big man, with the ability to provide his team with rim protection and a physical presence off the bench.

His potential addition to the Hawks will give him a chance to compete for the starting center minutes, which is something he has not had throughout his NBA journey. Should things fall into place for Dedmon and the Hawks, he would be able to build on the solid campaign he had last year under the more exposure in Atlanta.
