On a quiet Friday afternoon in the NBA front, the Atlanta Hawks officially announced the signing of longtime NBA veteran Vince Carter. Entering his 21st NBA season and joining his eighth NBA team, Carter will look to bring his veteran leadership and athletic game to Atlanta.

Following the announcement, the Hawks announced that Carter will wear the jersey number he's worn for most of his career, #15. While the Hawks obviously had to try and get Carter the jersey number he wanted, some noticed that the Hawks gave away franchise legend Carmelo Anthony's jersey number just weeks after he was let go.

Via the Hawks press release:

The Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club has signed guard/forward Vince Carter, it was announced today. He will wear No. 15.

In all seriousness though, Carter was expected to seriously consider retirement now that he's 40 years old and has played 20 successful NBA seasons. Although it wasn't reported, he likely had the chance to join a number of contenders this offseason like the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, or Oklahoma City Thunder.

However, Carter says he still has a lot left in the tank and feels like he can not only help a team off the court with his veteran leadership, but also with his play on the court.

How much he has left remains to be seen. For his 1,405 game career, Carter has averaged 17.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.0 steal per game on 43.7 percent shooting from the field and 37.3 percent from beyond the arc.
