The Hawks are playing in their historic 50th year in Atlanta. In order to commemorate the occasion, the team is rolling out Hardwood Classic jerseys and a retro court they will play on — presumably whenever they wear the Hardwood Classic jerseys.

The jerseys are mostly light blue with red lettering and the court takes on a much darker feel. The key and the sidelines are black with a black, white, and gold logo at center court.

These are a throwback look with a fresh feel for this young Hawks team. Amidst a rebuild, the Hawks are putting the hopes of the future in the development of young talents like Trae Young and John Collins.

Young was drafted fifth overall by the Dallas Mavericks but shipped to Atlanta in a draft-day deal for Luka Doncic. The point guard is coming off his freshman season at the University Oklahoma where he led the nation in scoring and assists. The dynamic playmaker and scorer should pair well with Collins.

Collins averaged 10.5 points and 7.3 rebounds in his rookie campaign. He impressed voters enough to name him to the NBA All-Rookie second team. The former Wake Forest Demon Deacon showed promise in his first year and built on that in the Las Vegas Summer League.

Young, Collins, and the youthful Hawks will take their lumps this year, but the future is bright. They won't contend during the 50th anniversary season, but they shouldn't have to wait too long before the city of Atlanta sees another contender.
