The Atlanta Hawks have traded forward Luke Babbitt back to the Miami Heat in exchange for forward Okaro White.

Babbitt played last season with the Heat and had a significant role on the team. He averaged 4.8 points and shot 41 percent on 3-pointers in 15.7 minutes over 68 games (55 starts) in Miami. He was the team's starter at power forward for most of their amazing 30-11 second-half run but missed the final five games of the year due to injury.

He eventually left in free agency last summer to sign a one-year minimum deal with the Hawks. He was averaging 6.1 points and shooting a career-high 44 percent from downtown in 37 games (nine starts) for Atlanta this season.

Meanwhile, White has missed the past three months due to a broken left foot after playing 35 games as a rookie. No timetable has been set for his return. Prior to his injury, White averaged 3.3 points and 1.8 rebounds in six games (four starts) for the Heat this season.

Babbitt will add some much-needed shooting to a Heat team which is short on reliable 3-point shooters at the moment, especially with Wayne Ellington struggling with a shoulder injury. Non-shooters Justise Winslow and Derrick Jones Jr. have had to play significant minutes in recent weeks, which has limited the team's spacing.

Babbitt could once again be in line to become the team’s starting power forward moving forward. The Heat have been unable to find a consistent option for that role this season.

As for White, he will most likely see limited minutes playing behind Ersan Ilyasova and John Collins in the Hawks’ power forward depth chart when he returns.
