Playing for a team that constantly loses is draining for NBA players. Year after year of playoff-free basketball can take a toll on any competitor. Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young has only had to endure one year of this, and he is already sick of it.

During the NBPA/Five-Star Camp at Basketball City, Young claimed that he is doing everything he can this offseason to ensure the Hawks avoid a long rebuild and start contending as soon as possible.

“I think for us we heard a lot about the rebuilding and all about it's going to take a while for us to get back to winning and doing big things. But for us we just want to speed up the process,” Young said, per Ian Begley of SNY.TV.

“Obviously, we want to be in the playoffs. I think for us, watching the playoffs this year — especially for me — it hurt. Like, I wanted to play; I wanted to keep playing. So for me, that's what I've been focusing on this summer, is how I can help my team, how I can build that camaraderie with this young team to help us get there, and speed up the process that everybody is talking about.”

The Hawks are one of the youngest teams in the NBA. They have stockpiled young talent over the past few seasons, and fans got a glimpse of an upcoming breakthrough last season. Although Atlanta posted a record of 29-53, Young, Kevin Huerter and John Collins all showed why they could be franchise cornerstones of the growing team.

With some good play out of rookies Cam Reddish and De'Andre Hunter, Young could get his wish and the Hawks might actually snag a playoff spot sooner rather than later.
