Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young has been invited to participate in the NBA 3-Point Contest and Skills Challenge during All-Star weekend in February, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Young spoke to Hawks reporters about possibly competing in both events:
“No, I haven’t heard,” Young said, via the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “That was the first it was just brought up to me. I guess there’s reports out there, but I’ve been practicing, so we’ll see when I go look at my phone. … I would love to. I don’t want to jinx myself. I don’t know if I have yet, so.”
The Hawks have the worst record in the NBA this season, but Trae Young has been putting up superstar numbers. He's averaging 28.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 8.4 assists in 34 games while shooting 44.8 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 85.0 percent from the free-throw line.
Young figures to do well in the 3-point contest and Skills Challenge. The Hawks would certainly love to have Young represent the franchise in Chicago during All-Star weekend in what has been a dreadful season. The Hawks are only 8-29 on the season entering Tuesday.
It's clear Atlanta needs to get Young more talent around him. The Hawks are one of the teams who have shown interest in acquiring Andre Drummond from the Detroit Pistons.
