The Miami Heat acquired Jimmy Butler in a sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers during the offseason, and former Heat star Alonzo Mourning is already liking what he is seeing from the wing:

“I noticed the DNA. He already had the DNA, and it was long before he was deciding whether to come here,” Mourning said, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “The actual DNA he had, based on our culture, I knew that he would fit in immediately.”

Butler is a big fan of Mourning as well as Udonis Haslem, who is about to begin his 17th NBA season in Miami:

“I'm just like those guys,” said Butler. “Got up out of the mud, just worked my way to be where I am. I want to play as long as those guys played. I wanted to win championships like those guys won championships. I think we can do it here. I talk to those guys all the time. I want that feeling.”

Butler began the 2018-19 campaign with the Minnesota Timberwolves but demanded a trade because of his unhappiness with Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins, not to mention the front office.

The Timberwolves granted his request, sending him to the 76ers.

In 65 games between both clubs, Butler averaged 18.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.9 steals over 33.6 minutes per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the floor, 34.7 percent from 3-point range and 85.5 percent from the free-throw line.

The 30-year-old spent the first six seasons of his career with the Chicago Bulls.

Miami will kick off its regular season when it hosts the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night. Jimmy Butler is planning on helping his new club back to the playoffs, using that Miami Heat DNA.
