Miami Heat shooting guard Dion Waiters is making a long and hard look at the viability of him going under the knife in the offseason to repair his bum left ankle that has continued to bother him this season, per Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

Dion Waiters will consider having surgery this offseason to repair his problematic left ankle, conceding Tuesday that it probably won’t be fully healed until such a procedure takes place.

Waiters has missed the Heat’s last two games, which includes Tuesday’s 107-89 road win against the Orlando Magic, after tweaking his left ankle in a 113-101 win over the Dallas Mavericks at home last Friday. Waiters played just nine minutes versus the Mavs and finished with only four points and two assists to go with a steal and a rebound.

Waiters is not in considering surgery at any point of this season, as he obviously believes in his capacity to be an effective key piece for the Heat even with on a hurting ankle.

He [Waiters] was adamant that surgery will not take place before the Heat season ends.

“No,” Waiters said. “Hell no.”

While he’s out, Tyler Johnson will pick up additional minutes on the floor, while Goran Dragic and Josh Richardson will also have to shoulder extra burdens on offense. Waiters, who signed a four-year, $52 million deal with the Heat last summer, has averaged 14.3 points on 39.8 field goal shooting percentage in 30 games played this season.
