The Miami Heat are 1-2 in their last three games, and All-Star small forward Jimmy Butler knows exactly why they've been scuffling a bit.

After the Heat lost to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, Butler said the Heat's defense hasn't been up to snuff:

“We just didn’t guard nobody, man, from the beginning of the game,” Butler said, via the Miami Herald. “I think that’s the direction that we’re trending in right now. I feel like we got to take it personal. That doesn’t mean enough to us right now, to man up and take the challenge. That’s what happens. We deserved it.

“We haven’t done that in the last couple of games. Sometimes we outscore our opponent. We can’t rely on that every night. We have to rely on our effort plays. We don’t have a team full of superstars. We got a team full of supposed dogs that play incredibly hard, and I don’t feel like we’re doing that right now. We’re not being who we are.”

The Heat gave up 113 points to the Los Angeles Lakers last Friday, 118 to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday and 118 to the Grizzlies on Monday. Miami was able to defeat the Mavs, but that's mostly because Dallas played without superstar Luka Doncic, who suffered a sprained ankle in the first quarter.

The Heat have to get their defensive intensity back. They take on the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, a game which will have a lot of energy since Butler is making his second return to Philadelphia. Butler was booed every time he touched the ball in his first game against the Sixers in Philly back in November.

The Heat are 19-8 on the season. They are in the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
