The Miami Heat are reportedly doing its due diligence on Chris Paul, but there is no aggressive pursuit on the Heat's part to acquire the All-Star point guard, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.

The Houston Rockets traded Paul to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the blockbuster Russell Westbrook trade. The Heat were trying to acquire Westbrook, but the Rockets beat Miami to the punch.

Chris Paul has three years left on his contract. He'll make $38,506,482 next season, $41,358,814 in 2020-21 and has a player option worth $44,211,146 for the 2021-22 season. Paul and the Thunder likely won't agree to a buyout, as CP3 would have to give up a lot of money.

The Heat were trying to pair Westbrook with Jimmy Butler, whom Miami acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers in a sign-and-trade deal. If Paul didn't get along with James Harden in Houston, he likely won't mesh well with Butler in South Beach.

This past season, Paul averaged 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 8.2 assists in 58 games. The future Hall of Famer shot 41.9 percent from the field, 35.8 percent from beyond the arc and 86.2 percent from the free-throw line. At this point in his career, Paul isn't that much better than the Heat's current starting point guard, Goran Dragic.
