The Charlotte Hornets appear to be on the cusp of some significant changes this offseason. It seems wingman Jeremy Lamb is among those that could be on their way out.

While Charlotte looks to usher in a new era, Lamb is set to test the waters of free agency. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Hornets are not willing to compete with the potential offers he may receive, via Sagar Trika of Early Bird Rights:

”I think Michael Jordan is ready to start over with the Hornets.” Says Charlotte will very likely lose both Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb for nothing. Also says Lamb has “significant value in the marketplace.”

The update on Lamb's situation creates some rather notable voids in the backcourt. It is no secret that all signs are pointing to point guard Kemba Walker signing elsewhere this offseason. To make matters worse, the Hornets failed to address the issue in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The prospect of Lamb receiving generous offers in free agency is certainly not too far-fetched. The 27-year is coming off a career-year in which he averaged 15.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. As a result, there should be no shortage of interest in his services this offseason.

If the Hornets really do plan on starting from scratch, then signing Walker or Lamb to a lucrative deal may not be the most ideal approach since there is little reason for them to take less money to stay in Charlotte when they can cash in with a legitimate competitor in free agency. It will be interesting to see how the team's backcourt looks in the 2019-20 NBA season.
