The news that the Miami Hurricanes had an agreement in place with Oregon Ducks coach Mario Cristobal one of the main college football talking points this weekend. The only issue, however, was that Miami still had a head coach. The team had yet to make a decision on Manny Diaz, who was still employed by the team when the Cristobal news became official.

After finally being fired by the organization, Diaz issued a statement on Monday, which was shared by Pete Thamel via Twitter, in which Diaz called out the University of Miami for how they handled his termination.

“I am disappointed in the University's decision and the manner in which this played out over the last few weeks. The uncertainty impacted our team, our staff and their families — these are real people that gave everything for the program. For that, for them, I hurt,” Diaz said in his statement.

Diaz was the head coach at Miami from 2019-2021, amassing a 21-15 record during his tenure with the program and going 0-2 in bowl games. The Hurricanes had lofty expectations headed into the 2021 season, entering the year ranked as the No. 14 program in the nation. They didn't live up to the billing, however, stumbling to a 7-5 season in what was ultimately Diaz's last go-around.

With Cristobal having signed a big-money deal to officially take over as head coach of the Hurricanes, the Hurricanes are starting a new chapter, though their previous one certainly ended on a sour note.
