The Rohit Sharma-led Team India's sensational victory over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup in New York triggered an epic meme fest on social media on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma and his boys scripted history as they defended their lowest-ever total in T20Is to defeat Pakistan in the T20 World Cup at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium during the weekend.

While the match turned into a thriller during its final stages, the high-stakes battle began on a disappointing note as the Indian batters failed to get going against the Pakistani bowlers, managing to put up only 119 on the board. Except for Rishabh Pant (42 off 31), Axar Patel (20 off 18), and Rohit Sharma (13 off 12), no other Indian batter made it to double digits with the Pakistani pacers firing on all cylinders.

Naseem Shah was particularly impressive with the new cherry, as he managed to swing the ball both ways, troubling the Indian batters with his immaculate line and length.

His victims were the talismanic Virat Kohli, all-rounder Shivam Dube and Axar Patel.

Haris Rauf and Mohammad Amir were the other Pakistani bowlers who troubled the Indian batters, especially their middle-order as the Rohit Sharma-led side failed to find answers to their moving deliveries.

With the pitch in New York providing meaningful assistance to Haris Rauf and Mohammad Amir, the Indians never recovered, and in the end, finished with a below-par total in their allocated 20 overs.

In reply, Pakistan put their nose ahead as Mohammad Rizwan held one end up while batters from the other contributed in double digits.

With Pakistan requiring 40 off 36 balls, and Mohammad Rizwan at the crease, Pakistan was the favorite to clinch a win at that stage.

However, Jasprit Bumrah turned the match on its head in the 15th over with his wicket as he cleaned bowled Mohammad Rizwan for 31.

Furthermore, in the penultimate over, when Pakistan needed 21 off 12 deliveries, he removed Iftikhar Ahmed and only gave away three runs, allowing Arshdeep Singh to defend 18 runs in the final over.

Though Pakistan tried hard, it wasn't enough to cross the finishing line as India secured a six-run triumph to almost seal their place in the Super 8.

After the match, Rohit Sharma slammed his batters for their dismal showing while praising his bowlers for their stunning display in the match against Pakistan.

โ€œWe didn't bat well enough. I thought halfway through, after 10 overs, we were in a good position, you expect guys to stitch partnerships. We were 15-20 runs short, and every run matters. We were looking at 140, but nevertheless the bowlers did the job. It was a good wicket compared to the one we played on here [against Ireland]. There's that never-say-die attitude in the team. Only 119 on the board, and we wanted to make early inroads which we didn't. But at the halfway stage we got together and said if things can happen to us, they can happen to them too. The little contributions from everyone makes the difference,โ€ Rohit Sharma told the tournament's official broadcaster.

โ€œWhoever has the ball wants to make the difference. Bumrah is going from strength to strength. I'm not going to talk too much about him, we want him to be in that kind of mindset till the end of this World Cup, he's a genius with the ball. The crowd was superb, they never disappoint, wherever we play in the world, they come out in huge numbers and support us. They'll be going home with a big smile on their face as well. Just the start of the tournament, we have a long way to go,โ€ the India captain explained.

On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah โ€“ the slayer in chief of the Pakistani batting line-up credited the discipline of the Indian bowlers for the victory over their arch-rivals.

โ€œWe felt we were a little under par. When the sun came out, the wicket got a bit better. So we had to be disciplined with what we were trying to do. I tried to keep it simple, the wicket got better, and the swing was less. So I tried to hit the seam as much as I can. I just tried to be clear with my plan and focused on my execution,โ€ Jasprit Bumrah noted.

Despite Pakistan's second consecutive defeat in the competition, their skipper Babar Azam expressed optimism about qualifying for the next round.

โ€œWe bowled well. In the batting, lost back to back wickets and had too much dot balls. Tactics was simple to play normally. Just strike rotation and the odd boundary. But in that period we had too many dot balls. Can't expect much from tailenders. Our mind was to utilise first six overs in batting. But one wicket down, and again we weren't up to the mark in first six. Pitch looked decent. Ball was coming on nicely. It was a little bit slow, and some balls extra bounce. Have to win last two matches. Will sit and discuss our mistakes but looking forward to last two matches,โ€ Babar Azam said after Pakistan's narrow loss to India in New York.
