The Brooklyn Nets suffered another blow as their rookie guard Isaiah Whitehead has been placed on the NBA's concussion protocol after his head got stepped on during their game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday.

He missed the second game of their back-to-back when the Nets faced their city rivals, the New York Knicks on Wednesday night.

The incident happened at the 7:42 mark of the first quarter when Timberwolves' big man Gorgui Dieng inadvertently stepped on his head and caused him to stagger off the court.

The 21-year-old will now have to undergo a series of tests with increasing difficulty as part of the league's protocol to look after the safety of its players. In order to be cleared, Whitehead must not show any signs of stress or dizziness from the head injury.

His injury comes only days after Randy Foye returned to action, but still not being 100 percent in game-shape, the team signed Yogi Ferrell recently as an insurance to fill in the void left by Whitehead and their starting point guard Jeremy Lin, who is expected to miss another week of action due to a hamstring pull.

Whitehead has started the past two games for the Nets before being forced to be sidelined. He has shown steady improvement in his game and has averaged 4.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 17.0 minutes per contest so far this season.
