Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has another big get in free agency.

The Jags are reportedly signing former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Shaquill Griffin to a three-year deal worth up to $44.5 million, per Michael Shawn-Dugar of The Athletic. Griffin will get $29 million guaranteed.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network had previously reported the Seahawks were working hard to keep their top corner.

But Seattle was dealing with some cap issues. It seemed unlikely they were going to be able to create enough cap in time to dissuade Griffin from taking the Jags offer.

Instead, the former Central Florida standout will be heading closer to his home in St. Petersburg.

Griffin made the Pro Bowl in 2019 after racking up 13 passes defended. He held opposing passers to a 57.1 completion rate, eventually earning an overall grade of 77.0 from Pro Football Focus.

Early-season struggles resulted in a slight slip in overall grade (64.1) in 2020. But Griffin still had a productive year. The 25-year-old had a career-high three interceptions to go along with 12 passes defended.

This is an appropriately aggressive move from the Jaguars. Jacksonville entered the free-agent negotiating window with the most salary cap space in the NFL. It also needed to upgrade in the secondary.

Now, the Jags have Griffin playing opposite 2020 first-round pick C.J. Henderson, who showed signs of promise despite playing just eight games due to injury.

What else does Meyer have in store? The Jags could use some help at receiver, and will perhaps get more aggressive in going after offensive line help as they prepare to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence next month.

In any case, Jacksonville plugged a big hole by signing Griffin to play outside corner.
