Utah Jazz small forward Jae Crowder says Boston Celtics swingman Gordon Hayward's left ankle fracture from last season is the craziest injury he's ever seen in his career.

Crowder was on the Cleveland Cavaliers when Hayward fractured his left ankle. The entire crowd in Cleveland went silent and players on both teams couldn't believe what had happened. It was truly a somber scene on opening night.

Opening night in Cleveland last year was supposed to be an epic evening. Kyrie Irving was making his return to The Land as a member of the Celtics, Jae Crowder was facing his old team, and Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade and Gordon Hayward were making their debuts for their respective teams. It was a nationally televised game and there was a lot of hype coming into the night.

Then, when the Hayward injury happened, the energy of the evening was just sucked right out. So even though the game went right down to the wire, there was still this uneasy feeling throughout the arena.

Gordon Hayward missed the rest of the 2017-18 season. However, the 28-year-old is back this year and it's really good to see him playing again. Hayward is averaging 10.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in nine games for the 6-4 Celtics.

The Cavs traded Jae Crowder to the Jazz at the 2018 trade deadline. The rugged defender appears to have found a home in Utah. In 11 games this year, Crowder is averaging 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Gordon Hayward makes his return to Utah on Friday night. Hayward spent the first seven years of his NBA career with the Jazz.
