The recent wildfires in Australia have caused unimaginable damage to the Aussie landscape, environment, and wildlife. There are nine Australian-born NBA players on current rosters. Among them is Utah Jazz small forward Joe Ingles.

Joe Ingles and fellow Aussies Ben Simmons, Aron Baynes, Ryan Broekhoff, Matthew Dellavedova, Dante Exum, Thon Maker and Patty Mills have joined together to donate $750,000 to support the fight against the bushfires in their home country.

According to a press release sent out by the National Basketball Players Association Foundation, the donation will go to immediately aid relief efforts and long-term building projects.

Responding to the same press release on his Instagram, Ingles said the following:

“So proud to be Australian & to see what’s going on in my country is absolutely devastating. Glad to partner with the @nba@nbpa & my fellow Aussie NBA players to contribute to the Australian bushfire relief efforts.
Thank-you to all who are fighting for and supporting our country.”

The Jazz sharpshooter also announced that he and his wife Renae will be announcing more fundraising in partnership with the Utah Jazz in the coming days.

According to some estimates, the bushfires have killed at least 24 people, have torched over 15 million acres of land, destroyed over 1,400 and have killed an estimated one billion animals.

Ingles, a six-year NBA veteran, has become a vital cog for the Jazz. This season, the 6-foot-8 wing is averaging 10.5 points 4.6 assists and 4.4 rebounds while also shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from deep.
