New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold was forced out of Thursday night's game for a bit due to a shoulder injury.

Although Darnold would return to finish the contest, Jets head coach Adam Gase said the team is uncertain as to the extent of the signal-caller's injury:

“We’re still kind of evaluating that, seeing what our options are, seeing how it’s going to be for practice, games,” Gase said, via Ralph Vacchiano of SNY. “We’ve got a lot of questions to answer there.”

Gas also noted it is possible Darnold could miss time with the injury (via ESPN's Rich Cimini).

This is hardly encouraging news for a Jets team still looking for its first win.

Darnold has not exactly inspired confidence under center. The former USC star has completing under 60 percent of his pass attempts, and he has just three touchdowns against four interceptions.

At the same time, injuries on the offensive side of the ball have not helped Darnold's cause.

Starting running back Le'Veon Bell was placed on injured reserve after suffering an injury in Week 1. Moreover, top wide receiver Jamison Crowder has been out due to a hamstring before the Broncos defeat, and there are injuries on the offensive line.

As a result, the Jets have struggled to move the ball. New York ranks 31st in both total yards and points scored. The Jets are also dead-last in points per drive, according to Pro Football Reference.

Darnold has already been sacked 12 times, often being forced to scramble for his life. One of those scrambles actually resulted in a miraculous touchdown run on Thursday.

In any case, the Jets are unsure how much time—if any—Darnold could miss. Veteran Joe Flacco would likely take over if Darnold is sidelined with the shoulder issue.
