The New York Jets suffered a tough loss to AFC East divisional rival Buffalo Bills in Week 1. Following a 7-9 season, a bad start to 2020 was not what they needed.

Of course, this raises a lot of questions about head coach Adam Gase and his job security at the moment.

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, the CEO of the Jets, Christopher Johnson, has weighed in on the situation. He has given Gase the dreaded “vote of confidence.”

“I think that he has a lot more in him as a head coach than some of our fans are giving him credit for,” Johnson said, via Pro Football Talk. “I understand. They want to see success. I think that they will.”

Now, of course this does not sound like a bad thing at all. In the comments that Brian Costello of the New York Post reported, Johnson was complimentary of Gase.

However, there is a classic feeling when it comes to these comments. Whenever a CEO (or someone in a high position) makes these kinds of comments about a coach, it is because they are on the hot seat. Otherwise, they wouldn't be getting asked the type of questions that lead to those answers in the first place.

So whenever you hear those types of comments, it is followed by a firing not long after a surprisingly high amount.

If Gase wants to break the cycle, he is going to need his team to pick it up a bit.

That's where the bad news comes for the head coach, because New York's schedule isn't getting any easier.

Week 2 sees them face off with the San Francisco 49ers, who made it to the Super Bowl last year. If they want to steer clear of that dreaded 0-2 record to start the season, the Jets will need to put it all together.

Not only could that save them from a deep hole to start the year, but it could save Gase's job. Right now, he has a vote of confidence from his CEO. But that might not be the best news.
