The New York Jets have been without C.J. Mosley for their previous three games and it looks like he is on track to miss another game in Week 5. Despite the optimism from the coaching staff, Mosley isn't ready to return to practice yet.

In New York's season opener, Mosley sustained a groin injury in the second half of their game versus the Buffalo Bills. Since then, the veteran linebacker has failed to log a practice and hasn't been on the field for the past three weeks.

There was some confidence that Mosley could return to the team after their bye week in Week 4. But on Tuesday, head coach Adam Gase said that the inside linebacker won't be on the practice field on Wednesday.

Mosley told the New York Daily News that he's made progress in his recovery, but it's been a tricky process.

“Running straight ahead felt pretty good,” Mosley said, via the New York Daily News. “Cutting and those type of motions are still . . . up in the air. That’s the part where I can’t really test it out because if I do . . . if I hurt it more, then it will set me back more. That’s been the tricky part. Just figuring out how to try to test that full-speed motion without damaging it more.”

The Jets signed Mosley this offseason to a lucrative five-year, $85 million contract in free agency. In the half of football that he played this season, Mosley was able to total six tackles and a pick-six for the Jets.

Along with Mosley, New York is hoping to get Sam Darnold back in Week 5 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Similarly to the starting inside linebacker, Darnold hasn't suited up since Week 1 due to having mono.
