New York Jets tight end Chris Herndon is back from his four-game suspension, but it could still be a couple of weeks until he is back as he is dealing with a hamstring injury.

The injury happened last Friday when he was running routes on his own before he was allowed to return to the team. Herndon was suspended four games because of a DUI arrest in June 2018 and although he could be at the practice facility during the suspension, he couldn't practice with the team.

Coach Adam Gase said he felt bad for Herndon because of everything he has gone through and now this latest setback.

“I feel bad for him because he's been waiting to get back,” Gase said via ESPN. “… I know the guys were looking forward to getting him back, too.”

“It's tough to go through what he had to go through because you're around and can't do anything,” Gase said. “To finally be able to get a chance to be on the field, and now he can't.”

The Jets have had problems getting the ball to their tight ends and the hope was getting Darnold and Herndon back would help that issue.

Last season, he played in 16 games, catching 39 passes for 502 yards and four touchdowns. The hope is that he won't be out too many weeks with the injuries, but hamstrings can be tricky. It's hard to imagine with it sounding like a serious hamstring injury that he will be able to return for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
