New York Jets running back Le'Veon Bell's status for his team's game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday is up in the air due to an illness, according to Brian Costello of The New York Post.

Bell is not practicing on Friday. He also missed practice on Thursday.

This is just the latest blow in what has been a miserable season for Bell.

The three-time Pro Bowler signed a four-year deal with the Jets back in March, but his first season with the club has not gone as planned, as he has rushed for just 589 yards and three touchdowns while averaging a meager 3.2 yards per carry.

Bell has not logged a single 100-yard game this season, with his high-water mark coming in Week 7 when he totaled 70 rushing yards in a blowout loss to the New England Patriots.

To be fair, New York's offensive line has been horrific this year, and the team has not exactly gotten consistent quarterback play, which has made life exceedingly difficult for Bell.

Bell, who played his collegiate football at Michigan State, was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round (48th pick overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He spent the first six years of his career with the Steelers, although he sat out all of 2018 as a result of a contract dispute.

When Bell was on the field in Pittsburgh, however, he was dominant, earning a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections in addition to his Pro Bowl appearances.

The Jets are just 4-8 on the year and are coming off of an abysmal loss to the previously winless Cincinnati Bengals.
