The New York Jets are hoping Zach Wilson can make some significant strides in his second NFL season, but one franchise legend doesn't feel so optimistic about the young QB. Via Rich Cimini, Jets Super Bowl-winning quarterback and franchise hero Joe Namath still feels that the “school is out” on Wilson's long-term outlook.

“We've got to see more, but the other thing is, I know it takes a group. Zach couldn't perform at his best [last season] for a couple of reasons. He's not there yet, certainly, and it was new for him and his team is not that solid… I like him, but I don't know how long he's going to last,” Namath said.

Those certainly aren't the words fans want to hear from one of their most renowned quarterbacks in franchise history. Rather than express belief in the Jets' 22-year-old signal-caller, Namath seems to be under the impression that Wilson is destined for a short career, despite the talent he possesses.

The Jets selected Wilson with the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of BYU. Despite lofty expectations entering his rookie season, Wilson struggled and also dealt with injury, limiting him to just 13 games. Wilson struggled with accuracy at the next level, completing just 55.6% of his pass attempts, though it certainly doesn't help that he was frequently under pressure and forced to scramble out of the pocket. Still, Wilson threw just 9 touchdown passes and intercepted 11 times as a rookie.

It's worth noting, however, that Wilson did appear more comfortable during the second half of the season. The rookie threw just two interceptions after returning from injury in Week 12, and didn't throw a pick in his final five games of the season.
