Le’Veon Bell Trade, Jets Update: 1:07 Eastern

After earlier hinting on social media that he desires to be traded, the New York Jets are reportedly looking to looking to move on from running back Le’Veon Bell.

Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News reports that the Jets are already shopping the three-time Pro Bowler in the midst of the team’s 0-5 start to the season, their worst since 1996. The report says that the team hopes that they will find a team to take on Bell sooner rather than later, especially with the NFL’s trade deadline set on October 29.

The 28-year old Bell appeared to show a desire to be traded, as he liked three tweets from media members about his lack of involvement in the Jets’ passing game in their 30-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, which dropped them to 0-5. One of the tweets he liked suggested he should be traded because Jets head coach Adam Gase does not know how to use him.

Bell, who was named to the First Team All-Pro twice during his stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, had 13 carries for 60 rushing yards in the loss to Arizona, but was targeted just once and had seven receiving yards.

Gase defended Bell’s lack of involvement in the game against the Cardinals, saying that it was not a deliberate effort, and that opposing defenses take away some of their players as options for their offense.

The challenge now for the Jets is to find a team willing to take on the star running back’s contract, as he had an $8.5 million guaranteed base salary. Last season, after spending his first five years in the NFL in Pittsburgh, Le’Veon Bell signed a four-year, $52.5 million contract with New York, which made him at the time the highest-paid running back in the league.
