New York Jets tight end Ryan Griffin signed a multi-year contract with the team on Saturday. They announced the signing on their official website but didn't provide specifics about the deal.

The Jets have signed TE Ryan Griffin to a multi-year extension.

Griffin has recently played an important role for the Jets. During their 34-17 win over the Washington Redskins in Week 11, Griffin managed to end his performance with 109 receiving yards and one touchdown on five receptions.

It was unclear how effective Griffin would be for the Jets when he signed with the team. Jets offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains praised the knowledge for the game that Griffin and that's a key reason why he has been effective.

“When he got here, we didn’t know what the signing was going to be,” Jets offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said, via Peter Botte of the New York Post. “We knew we were signing a good football player, but he gets here and you can feel his savviness and how much football intelligence he has and being a pro for a while has definitely helped him. He understands the game very well.

“We’re really fortunate, and that was a good move by the front office to get him, because he’s a good football player who’s helped this team.”

With Chris Herndon out for the remainder of the season due to a fractured rib injury, there will be no shortage of opportunity for Griffin to contribute.
