Second-year quarterback Sam Darnold and the New York Jets were absolutely throttled by the arch-rival New England Patriots on Monday Night Football. With the Patriots improving to a perfect 7-0 thanks to the heralded franchise's 33-0 shutout victory over the Jets, New York dropped to a measly 1-5 on the year while the loss fell heavily on Darnold's shoulders.

Not only did Darnold turn the ball over time and time again on Monday evening, but the former first-round NFL Draft pick was also infamously “seeing ghosts.”

With Darnold seemingly forgetting that he was “Mic'd Up” for ESPN's broadcast, the interception machine openly admitted that the Patriots defense was simply too much to handle in Week 7.

“I’m not embarrassed by it. It is what it is,” Darnold told reporters on Tuesday, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. “Worse things have happened to me. But at the same time, yeah, it’s just a bummer that it was live. It’s a lot more common a phrase than it’s being made out to be.”

With Darnold returning to the field in a big way one week ago against the Dallas Cowboys, a matchup that has produced the team's only win of the 2019-20 regular season thus far, the former USC Trojans standout came back down to Earth in a hurry against the Patriots.

On Monday evening against the Patriots, Darnold turned the ball over a total of five times while throwing four interceptions.

Of course, Darnold previously missed an extended period of time due to suffering from a bout with mononucleosis.
