The New York Jets have had a rather busy offseason, adding high-profile names such as Le'Veon Bell and C.J. Mosley and also making shrewd moves like signing wide receiver Jamison Crowder and trading for offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele.

As a result, there are some who feel that the Jets could be playoff contenders this coming season, including quarterback Sam Darnold:

“There’s enough talent on this roster to be a playoff contender,” Darnold said, according to Al Iannazzone of Newsday. “You definitely have expectations of making it to the playoffs and we definitely have talent to do it.”

That would certainly be new territory for New York, as the Jets have not made the playoffs since the 2010-11 campaign and have only posted one winning season during that span.

Also, in a very deep AFC, it will certainly be difficult for Gang Green to make that leap in 2019, especially considering they are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won just four games.

But Darnold believes, and much of that belief comes from new head coach Adam Gase:

“His personality’s great,” Darnold said of Gase. “The whole building you can kind of sense almost a rebirth. The whole building’s very energized. There’s a lot of energy within the building, a lot of good vibes. For us, it’s feeding off of that. As long as you have that good energy, we can win with that.”

The Jets hired Gase as their head coach earlier this offseason after parting ways with Todd Bowles, who was rather unsuccessful in his four years at the helm in New York.
