The Oakland Raiders have been deadlocked in negotiations for defensive end Khalil Mack for quite some time now. However, with no end in sight, rumors are swirling about the franchise possibly dealing him elsewhere.

Needless to say, the Raiders have fielded a number of offers from teams around the league. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the New York Jets are among them:

Gang Green has reached out to the Oakland Raiders to express their interest in trading for perennial All-Pro outside linebacker Khalil Mack, according to league sources.

This is certainly an interesting development coming out of New York. The Jets have made some significant changes to their roster over the past couple of years. It appears they now fund themselves in a position to go big-game hunting ahead of the 2018 NFL season.

It is easy to see why New York is interested. They are in desperate need of some pressure on the edge after finishing in the bottom-5 in sacks over the last two seasons. Mack would be an immediate solution to their problem as the NFL's premier pass-rusher.

The Raiders' star has established himself as arguably the best defensive player in the league. As a result, he is looking to finally be paid as such. Mack certainly has every right to desire such a lucrative contract after registering 40.5 sacks through the first four years of his career thus far. That said, the Jets will need to make a heavy investment if they want to pry him away from the Raiders before the season starts.
