Euro 2020 has officially come and gone after Italy lifted the ultimate prize on Sunday at Wembley. It was a magical night for the Azzurri, who beat hosts England in spot-kicks. Not long after the festivities came to a close, the always controversial Jose Mourinho chimed in on who he thought was the player of the tournament in hilarious fashion. Surprisingly, it wasn't Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling nor any Italian, per TalkSport:

“My player of the tournament was Kyle Walker.

“I think Kyle Walker was phenomenal. From the first minute of Euro 2020 until the moment he came off in the final he was phenomenal.

“He was giving covers to centre-backs on the opposite side, I don't remember him losing one single duel.

“He didn't go forward as much as he does for his club because of a strategy point of view.

“But when I call a player an animal, it's the best compliment I can give to a player.

“Kyle Walker – absolute animal. For me, phenomenal, during the first to the last minute.”

Is that not the most Mourinho description ever? The best player at Euro 2020 was Kyle Walker, an absolute animal. What a spiel from the Portuguese tactician. All jokes aside, the Man City wing-back was phenomenal throughout the Three Lions' journey to the final. He was strong and decisive on the ball and his terrific pace allowed him to track back and dispossess oppositions on numerous occasions. Walker featured in six of his country's seven matches in the competition.

England as a whole should be proud of how they played in Euro 2020. While there was certainly an advantage playing on home soil, Gareth Southgate's side took massive strides and is proving to be a force for years to come with lots of young, vibrant talent. His decisions in penalties were questionable after selecting three very young players to step up to the spot in the Euro 2020 final, but this tournament should be deemed as a success for England nonetheless.
