Kamaru Usman is currently expected to face Leon Edwards in his next title defense. The UFC welterweight champion is finally able to move on from Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal and face someone a little bit different from the two.

Leon Edwards is actually a rematch as the two did face each other back at UFC Orlando in 2015. The two were very new to the organization and neither one was on the radar as future champions or title contenders.

“Leon is much sharper with his striking,” UFC champion Usman said during a Q&A session at T-Mobile Arena via MMAJunkie. “He has excellent striking. I mean, let’s just be honest. We saw it in the fight with Nate Diaz. He tortured him for four-and-a-half rounds and then Nate Diaz did what Nate Diaz does best, come in there and land that shot and steal all the glory. You forgot Leon Edwards won that fight, right? So I think Leon is much improved, his grappling is much improved, his wrestling is much improved, but I’m also much improved.”

It's not quite clear when the two are going to fight since the UFC has yet to send bout agreements to the two men. Kamaru Usman is looking at potentially facing Leon Edwards in July after needing some time off due to a broken hand.

“If Leon Edwards wants the smoke in July, International Fight Week here in Vegas for you guys, I’ll put him to sleep, too,” UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman said.
