The Kansas City Chiefs made the AFC Championship Game and got to see their quarterback Patrick Mahomes earn the MVP award in the 2018 season. Overall, it was a very successful season for the Chiefs.

Unfortunately, the defense did not exactly help them get to that game against the New England Patriots and Patrick Mahomes can't play both sides of the ball. If the Chiefs are going to keep their success rolling, they are going to need to assess their woes on defense. The front seven was actually a productive unit this past season lead by Chris Jones, Dee Ford, and Justin Houston, but the secondary was disappointing, to say the least.

If the Chiefs were to address their needs in the secondary, they really ought to take a good look at New York Giants safety Landon Collins. Collins is a top player at his position and it's possible the Giants could lose him in free agency. Although Collins had some injury woes this past season, he was still on pace for yet another successful campaign. Collins is a young, dynamic player that could definitely turn the secondary around in Kansas City.

Collins has made the Pro Bowl three times in his four-year career as well as one first team All-Pro in 2016.

Collins blew up in 2016 with 125 tackles, four sacks, five interceptions, and 13 passes defended. This was also the last season the Giants made the playoffs and ever since there has been nothing but disappointment and dysfunction with the team. With that being said, Collins will likely get a big payday with a team willing to break the bank for his skill set.

The Chiefs, in fact, could give Collins a hefty contract and see their defense transformed by him in the secondary. Once the Chiefs can get safety Eric Berry back and healthy, the two could form a fantastic tandem in the secondary. The Chiefs could see this addition putting them over the edge next season, considering they were already on the cusp of a Super Bowl appearance had they not run into the Patriots.

If the Chiefs are able to sign Collins, they would then likely have two of the highest-paid safeties in the league. They could make this move, but then players like Dee Ford would presumably desire a lengthy contract and Chris Jones won't be far behind. Ford has stated previously he would not mind if the Chiefs used their franchise tag on him, so if this is the case it could allow the Chiefs to make a move for Collins.

As of right now, this is the area the Chiefs absolutely need to focus on for the near future. It could be one of the biggest difference makers if Collins makes the leap to sign with the Chiefs next season.
