It didn't take long for March Madness to live up to its name this year. The 2-seeded Kentucky Wildcats were the first titan to fall, losing in overtime to the St. Peter's Peacocks, 85-79.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari was vocal after the loss, harping on letting down Big Blue Nation.

Via Kentucky beat reporter Jack Pilgrim:

“I'm disappointed for our fans,” said John Calipari on the Kentucky faithful. “They were shell-shocked like we were. We've got the greatest fans — we hate letting them down. I do as a coach, and I know these players do. This was really disappointing. Devastating.”

Kentucky goes down in NCAA Tournament history as just the 10th 2-seed to ever fall to a 15-seed since the the expansion of teams back in 1985.

Star transferee Oscar Tshiebwe led the way for Kentucky with 30 points and 16 rebounds. Guard Sahvir Wheeler was the next highest scorer with 11 points.

The thorns on the side of the Wildcats were junior guards Daryl Banks III and Doug Edert, who came off the bench to hit big shot after big shot for the St. Peter's Peacocks. Banks tallied 27 points while Edert had himself 20. Both players averaged just a shade over 20 points combined during the regular season.
