Khamzat Chimaev has always had big goals in his fighting career. The plan has always been to ‘smesh' his opponents and he doesn't even care in what weight class.

Khamzat Chimaev last competed at middleweight against Gerald Meerschaert, the outing saw him earn a quick KO. The rule for him has always been to fight at middleweight on short notice and welterweight for longer camps.

Right now, the plan is to stick with welterweight. The division is filled with excellent fights stylistically.

“Now we’re focused on 170 because I gave my word to my coach,” Chimaev told Red Corner MMA. “He said, ‘Listen, now we focus on that.’ Now everyone knows me, who I am, I become famous. Now, just give me fights at 170, take the belt, and then we jump up and take that also….

“I want to fight with everyone, top-10 guys. If I beat 10 guys now and become 20-0, then go up, beat some 20 guys at 84 kilos, now 40-0. We will see what happens. I hope everything goes good.”

The welterweight title picture is also an interesting one, Khamzat Chimaev wants to face Kamaru Usman. That doesn't mean he doesn't want Colby Covington.

He has been calling out Usman but Colby Covington is still an interesting name for him. He had a stern warning for the American when asked about his fighting style.

“From that fight, I know him,” Chimaev said about Covington. “Before, I never see his fights. He’s stupid American bullshit boy and we’ll beat him too. Hey, white boy, I’m coming for you too, bro.”

There is definitely a possibility the two will meet down the line. Right now Colby Covington has his hands full with Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev has the power puncher Li Jingliang waiting for him.
