The Sacramento Kings are getting aggressive in free agency. After already verbally agreeing to re-sign Harrison Barnes on a multi-year deal, the Kings are now expected to agree with veteran center Dewayne Dedmon on a three-year, $40 million deal, according to Sam Smick of The Athletic:

Dewayne Dedmon has quietly been an effective center in the NBA. In each of his last two seasons–both with the Atlanta Hawks–Dedmon averaged at least 10.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting close to 50 percent from the floor. His per-36 line from last season is even more encouraging: 15.5 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.6 blocks.

The former USC product can also stretch the floor. After taking just one 3-pointer in his first four seasons in the league, Dewayne Dedmon shot 35.5 percent beyond the arc in his first season with the Hawks before shooting over 38 percent from deep on 3.4 attempts per game last year.

His versatility as a 7-footer capable of stepping out to the perimeter while also battling for boards in the trenches makes him a perfect fit for this Kings team. Dewayne Dedmon was also one of the better interior defenders on Atlanta's roster, which may make the Kings more comfortable letting Willie Cauley-Stein walk if he gets a big offer sheet elsewhere.

Even with Barnes and Dedmon on board, the Kings still have some cap space to make a run at someone like Al Horford, although it is unlikely that Horford would sign with a fringe playoff contender.

Still, with De'Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley III as well as a full season from Barnes and the veteran presence of Dewayne Dedmon, the Kings should be a fun team to watch. They developed a lot as a team in 2019, and could be in position to take the next step in 2020. Dewayne Dedmon could be an important part of that process.
