On the heels of the recent sexual assault allegations against Sacramento Kings head coach Luke Walton, his defense lawyer, Mark Baute, released a statement on Tuesday to address the issue.

“Luke Walton retained me to defend him against these baseless allegations,” said Baute. “The accuser is an opportunist, not a victim, and her claim is not credible. We intend to prove this in a courtroom.”

TMZ Sports reported Monday that former Spectrum SportsNet Los Angeles host Kelli Tennant had filed a civil lawsuit against Walton, alleging that he “pinned her to the bed” and “began forcing kisses on her neck, face and chest” in his hotel room prior to his hiring for his first head coaching gig with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2016.

In the suit, Tennant stated she met Walton at his hotel in Santa Monica, California to give him a book she had published, in which he'd written the foreword. Tennant then said Walton invited her up to his room to “catch up” before she found herself suddenly trapped on the bed.

Tennant claims she screamed for Walton to stop but he “held her down, groped her breasts and groin, and rubbed his erection on her leg.” Once he released her, Walton allegedly “grabbed her from behind and again forced his body up against hers,” before she could exit the room.

Tennant had to continue interacting with Walton after he was hired as coach of the Lakers, as part of her job, alleging Walton would “impose himself on her with a big hug or a kiss” despite an obvious knock of it being inappropriate.

In the suit, Tennant describes an encounter with Walton in May 2017, in which he made “vulgar, guttural sounds at her” before forcing an “aggressive hug on her and rubbed his body against hers.”

The Lakers parted ways with Walton shortly after the end of the season, following the resignation of president Magic Johnson. Walton went only 32-45 this season with LeBron James, missing the playoffs and accruing a 98-148 record in his first three seasons as a head coach in the league.
