The New York Knicks hired David Blatt in an advisory role on Wednesday, and the former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach didn't waste any time in getting a head start on the job.
Blatt was spotted at Knicks practice Wednesday, talking with front office executives:
Most recently, Blatt had been coaching overseas, spending the 2016-17 campaign with Darussafaka and the 2018-19 season with the Olympiacos.
Of course, Blatt is most known for his brief tenure with the Cavaliers, which began during the 2014-15 campaign and lasted midway through 2015-16 before he was fired.
During his one-and-a-half seasons in Cleveland, Blatt went 83-40 and led the Cavs to a finals appearance during his first season. However, a disconnect with LeBron James eventually led to his dismissal.
The Cavaliers' decision to go with Blatt had many puzzled from the start, as Blatt had no experience as an NBA head coach, which led many believe that James would clash with the neophyte.
While Blatt's first season in Cleveland was impressive, as the Cavs won 53 games before eventually losing to the Golden State Warriors in six games in the finals, there were rumors that James had limited respect for Blatt and actually preferred assistant coach Tyronn Lue, who ultimately supplanted Blatt as head coach.
The Cavaliers were 30-11 at the time of Blatt's firing in 2015-16.
Meanwhile, the Knicks fired their own head coach in David Fizdale earlier this month and replaced him with assistant Mike Miller.
New York is just 7-21 on the season and has not made the playoffs since 2013. Going back even further, the Knicks have won just one playoff series since 2001.
