The New York Knicks hit a new low in the 2019-20 NBA regular season, as they absorbed a 44-point beating at the hands of the league's number one team, the Milwaukee Bucks, on Monday.

After lambasting his players for seemingly accepting defeat even before the game started, Knicks head coach David Fizdale also chimed in on his rookie RJ Barett's woeful turnout. The third overall pick of finished with just two points and one assist in 20 minutes of action.

“He looked like a rookie today,’’ Fizdale said of the 19-year-old Canadian, via Marc Berman of the New York Post.

“Sometimes that’s what he’s going to look like. But it’s a good learning lesson for him. I remember days watching Giannis [Antetokounmpo] looking pretty crappy when he was 18, 19. That’s part of the deal for these young guys, going through the lumps of the league.”

Speaking of Giannis, the reigning MVP punished the Knicks with 29 points, 13 rebounds, and three dimes in 29 minutes. He shot an efficient 10-for-14 from the field (71.4 percent) and even drained three of his four tries from beyond the arc (75 percent).

It's really unfair to compare a first-year player to a player of Antetokounmpo's stature, but it's hard no to expect more out of the former Duke star. Barrett missed all of his nine attempts from the field (0-2 from three) and scored his only points from the foul line.

Barrett has been pretty inconsistent for the Knicks and David Fizdale in 20 games, despite notching respectable averages of 14.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.3 steals. Guys like Ja Morant, Tyler Herro, and Kendrick Nunn have overtaken him in the Rookie Ladder, and it will be interesting to see if he can elevate his game further in the coming weeks.
