There are not a lot of jobs inside the NBA circle more stressful than being a head coach. Unlike players, coaches can easily get fired in heartbeat. Take for example New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale, who was handed his walking papers by the Memphis Grizzlies back in November of last year after his team’s poor start to the season.

Getting fired by the Grizzlies was not the proudest moment of Fizdale’s career, but what made it easier for him to cope with it was the solidarity shown to him by his colleagues, per Brian Mahoney of the Star Tribune.

“Because we're a fraternity,” Fizdale said. “We really do take pride in that in the NBA, that we look out for each other and stay connected with each other and when I got fired they all reached out to me the same way. And it's heartfelt because there's only 30 of these.”

It didn’t take David Fizdale very long to land on his feet again, as he was hired by the Knicks in May to be the franchise’s newest bench boss. He succeeds Jeff Hornacek, who was given his pink slip by New York in April after yet another dismal performance by the Knicks, though, it was not entirely his fault.

But that’s just the nature – of the hazard – of the job for NBA coaches. They’re the first to blame when teams suffer any inadequacy – and sometimes theirs are the first heads to roll.
