New York Knicks point guard Derrick Rose missed Tuesday's game against the San Antonio Spurs due to an inconclusive test for COVID-19., and his status for Thursday is unclear.

Ian Begley of SNY.tv reported Rose was cleared to fly back to New York after multiple negative tests following the inconclusive. However, Rose still needs to test negative on Wednesday and Thursday in order to suit up for the Knicks against the Detroit Pistons.

Rose was ruled out just an hour before Tuesday's game, which the Knicks went on to lose by 26 points. It remains to be seen whether the inconclusive merely reflected a testing error.

The NBA has tried to show an abundance of caution regarding testing procedures and potential close contacts, especially after the Kevin Durant situation earlier in the season. Rose seemingly stands a good chance to play Thursday after multiple negative tests, but will need more testing before he is cleared.

Rose has played well since coming over to New York. He is averaging 12.5 points, 4.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds through his first 10 games with the Knicks, also shooting 45.5 percent from beyond the arc on 2.2 attempts per game. The Chicago native started in the three games prior to Tuesday's absence, even racking up a double-double in Saturday's win over the Indiana Pacers.

Rose should play a vital role in New York's backcourt going forward. Not only is he a viable scorer and playmaker, but can also serve as a mentor for the likes of Immanuel Quickley. Most importantly, the 32-year-old is finally back on a team in the midst of the playoff race.
