Make no mistake: Derrick Rose wants to stay in the Big Apple and play for the New York Knicks. Unfortunately as an unrestricted free agent this offseason, that's not really his call to make.

After the Knicks' Game 5 loss to the Atlanta Hawks that eliminated them from the playoffs, Rose opened up about his free agency plans and got extra honest about his situation. While he wants another stint with the team, the future remains uncertain because the ‘Bockers have “big plans.'

“That’s not up to me,” Rose said of his free agency and future with the Knicks, per Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic. “That’s up to the front office. They got big plans.”

When Tom Thibodeau made the move to trade for Derrick Rose from the Detroit Pistons, there's no doubt he envisioned him playing a big role for a playoff team. And he did, with New York finishing as the fourth seed in the East before their first-round upset.

Rose was terrific in the 35 games he played for New York in the 2020-21 season, finishing with averages of 14.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists.

However, given his age and injury history, his role with the team might further diminish moving forward considering the plethora of young talent the Knicks have.

Everything will be answered come free agency. For sure, New York fans will love to have D. Rose back, but only at the right price and probably the right role.
