Emmanuel Mudiay has easily been one of the most disappointing draft picks from the 2015 NBA Draft. His horrendous defense, awful shooting, and his knack for accumulating turnovers turned him from a franchise starter for the Denver Nuggets into a role player for the New York Knicks. Originally, the Nuggets traded their starting point guard Ty Lawson to make room for Mudiay.  Ironically, Mudiay is now the one fighting for a starting spot after he was dumped by the Nuggets on the trade deadline.

For his new team, Mudiay has been tasked with providing value off of the bench. Ever since the season-ending ACL injury to Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks have focused all of their energies to rebuilding. Part of rebuilding is experimenting with what works for a team. Apparently, Mudiay might see some added playing time as a result, according to ESPN's Ian Begley.

For what it’s worth: Emmanuel Mudiay was playing point guard with the first unit during scrimmages at Knicks practice tonight. Jarrett Jack has started at PG for New York for most of the season.

The Knicks' safest bet is starting Jarrett Jack, who has played well for the team lately. Mudiay clearly isn't suited to become the starting point guard for the Knicks. Though, this could be premature assessment of Mudiay's talent. Every team is different in terms of their system. Hence, just because Mudiay wasn't able to thrive with the Nuggets doesn't mean that he won't succeed with the Knicks. Therefore, the Knicks are taking a rational approach to making preparations for Mudiay to gain more minutes and even start down the road.
