Derrick Rose is having a reunion with head coach Tom Thibodeau after being traded to the New York Knicks on Sunday. Now, Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler shared his own thoughts on the reuniting of the pair.

“Thibs is getting the band back together,” Butler said, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

Rose and Thibodeau spent years together with the Chicago Bulls before they went their separate ways. Now, the first-year coach for the Knicks has his young team playing well and fighting for a playoff spot through the first chunk of the year.

D-Rose was sent to the Knicks while the Pistons acquired Dennis Smith Jr. and a second-round pick. Given his history with Thibs, the veteran point guard should have a steady role for a playoff contender at Madison Square Garden.

The 32-year-old Rose isn't the MVP-caliber player he once was, but he's averaging 14.2 points in 15 games for the Pistons and can still provide quality minutes, especially for a younger team like the Knicks who lack veteran leadership.

Former Bulls forward and ex-teammate Taj Gibson was signed a few weeks ago, so Thibodeau seems to be dipping into the realms of some of his former players as New York looks to make a trip to the playoffs–or at the very least the play-in tournament.

Jimmy Butler also acknowledged that Derrick Rose can still play at a high level while praising coach Thibs.

“Thibs is a hell of a coach. I have so much respect for him. And D-Rose is a hell of a player then and a hell of a player now,” Butler said.

For what seems like an eternity, the Knicks have a realistic shot at making the playoffs, and Rose can certainly help lead the team going forward.
