New York Knicks small forward Mario Hezonja didn't play Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans, leaving the 23-year-old confused as to what his role on the team is moving forward.

That is the first time this season that Mario Hezonja didn't play for the team, though the Croatia international revealed that Knicks head coach David Fizdale told him to stay ready.

“He just said, ‘Stay ready,'” Hezonja said via Marc Berman of the New York Post. “Trey [Burke] was in the same situation. We’re not guys like that who will make problems out of it. Just stay ready and keep practicing and be right back into it.”

“To be honest, I don’t know what the role is. I’m finding my own role and not disrupting anything else.”

After a disappointing three years with the Orlando Magic, Hezonja signed a one year, 6.5 million free-agent deal with the Knicks in July in hopes of jumpstarting his career in the Big Apple.

Hezonja has long been considered by most as a bust in the NBA after the Magic selected him with the fifth overall pick in the 2015 draft. He only averaged 6.9 points per game in three seasons in Orlando.

In 15 games with the Knicks, things haven't been much better for Hezonja. He is putting up measly numbers of 9.2 points per game on 39.7 percent overall shooting and 28.0 percent from the 3-point line.
