Carmelo Anthony has reportedly participated in the New York Knicks' informal 5-on-5 scrimmages on Thursday morning. However, this is not an indication that the team is interested in signing him, according to Ian Begley of SNYTV.

The Knicks currently have 15 players on their roster with guaranteed deals, which means if they want to sign Melo, they will have to waive one of those guys, and paying a player a significant amount of money to not even suit up for the team isn't in their best interest.

Prior to free agency, the Knicks were interested in reuniting with Melo, but only if they landed superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Obviously, that didn't happen as both guys have decided to join the Nets.

Begley did also report:

Also worth noting — one person in the gym during Anthony's informal workouts with the Nets in Los Angeles said the 35-year-old was one of the best players in the workouts and that his body looked “great.”

Anthony, who once played for the Knicks, has also participated in informal scrimmages involving players from the Brooklyn Nets, but since the team is in the same situation as New York, the 10-time All-Star is unlikely to end up there as well.

According to reports, Melo's camp has already reached out to multiple teams to gauge their interest in signing the former scoring champion. Some of the teams that they contacted were the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers. However, none of them seem to have real interest in the services of the disgruntled star.

The upcoming season is still roughly two months away, but it seems that the door for Melo's return to the NBA is closing fast. If he and his reps won't be able to find a landing spot for him soon, it's possible that we might not see him in the league anymore.
