New York Knicks guard Ron Baker has exercised his $4.5 million player-option for the 2018-19 season, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

Baker underwent season-ending surgery on his shoulder in early February and is expected to be ready for the beginning of the season.

The former Wichita State Shockers shooting guard signed a two-year, $8.9 million deal with the Knicks last offseason, allowing him to come back to what is likely to be a very crowded backcourt coming into this summer.

The Knicks will have Baker along with point guards Emmanuel Mudiay, Trey Burke, and Frank Ntilikina, and shooting guards Courtney Lee, Damyean Dotson, and Tim Hardaway Jr., who signed a four-year, $71 million deal with the team last offseason.

That is not to mention whoever the franchise selects in the 2018 NBA Draft — with many assuming another guard will be added to the mix.

New York will have some decisions to make regarding roster construction due to a new coach in David Fizdale, who is avidly trying to instill a new culture within this team, hoping to mold his team around injured star Kristaps Porzingis.

Ron Baker has seen only mop-up duty in his second season with the team and put up 2.4 points, 1.6 assists, and one rebound per game through one start and 29 appearances last season prior to his season-ending injury.
