Trae Young is among the most talked about prospect heading into next month’s NBA Draft and the likelihood of the New York Knicks selecting him in the first round only adds to the guard’s mainstream value as of the moment. For Young’s father, Ray, the former Oklahoma Sooners’ guard is going to be just in the right place in New York, a city that is home to the brightest lights in professional sports.

“That's what Trae lives for. He lives for that type of stuff. Just think about it: He's probably the most talked about, most publicized kid in this draft and he's been through it all,” Young's father, Ray, told the Daily News.

There is a degree of truth to what Ray is saying. For one, Young is coming off an unforgettable season in Norman. In his first and only year in Sooners uniform, Young led the nation in both points and assists, averaging 27.4 markers and 8.7 dimes per game. The media was all over Trae Young for the entire season from his first game against the Omaha Mavericks in November until the Sooners’ first-round loss to the Rhode Island Rams in the national tournament. If there’s a rookie who could handle the Big Apple spotlight, Young is arguably going to be the best one from this year’s draft class to deal with it.

Following Tuesday’s lottery, the Knicks now know that they are going to pick ninth in the upcoming draft. Their place in the order puts them right around where many mock drafts have Young being selected next month.
