The city of Los Angeles just received a major boost to its bid to host the 2024 summer Olympics.

NBA and Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant has joined the bid committee's board of directors, as they try to bring the games to L.A. for the third time in history. Only Paris remains as competitor for the 2024 hosting rights.

The Black Mamba appeared in a live video on LA2024's Facebook Page recently to make the announcement, together with hosts Olympic gold medalist Janet Evans and broadcaster Al Michaels. He also added how excited he is and even joked that he is already preparing to participate in it together with his daughter.

“I’m extremely excited about joining the board here and trying to bring the Olympics back to Los Angeles. I’ve convinced my 14-year-old daughter to start training with me at 5 o’clock in the morning.”

Many believe that Los Angeles has the advantage as they have already hosted the event back in 1932 and 1984. They also have a lot of infrastructure already in place, and do not need to burden their taxpayers in building new stadiums anymore. The likes of the Staples Center, the Forum, the Honda Center, Dodger Stadium and the Rams‘ new football arena will all be available by 2024 for the athletes around the world to use.

The International Olympic Committee is expected to announce the location of the 2024 summer Olympics, as well as the hosts of the Paralympic Games within this month.
